Abstract:

This case example involves a developmentally apraxic 8-year-old girl who uses a multimodal communication system. This report describes implementation of the Partners in Augmentative Communication Training program (Culp and Carlisle, 1988) with the subject, her mother, the classroom teacher, and the school speech-language pathologist. Both formal pre-test compared with 2 month post-test data and informal participant observations suggest some improvement in communication interaction skills as a result of the intervention described. This case illustrates several issues regarding developmental apraxia and the use of augmentative and alternative communication which require further consideration.
